The Family Development Program seized a national opportunity for New
Mexico to be the first state to launch
Mind in the Making,
a groundbreaking initiative on brain development and current research
about how young children learn. We are collaborating with Ellen Galinsky
(Families and Work Institute) to serve as a national leader for this
comprehensive program on the science of early learning.
During the first 2-year pilot program,
more than 250 educators, home visitors and parents from 7 community sites
participated.
Thanks to the generous support of Governor
Richardson, Lt. Governor Denish and the New Mexico State legislature, the
Family Development Program has secured funding for a major “train the
trainer” initiative that will license other professional development
educators to offer Mind in the Making to community partners whom
they serve.
